Moving can be an overwhelming experience for anyone, but as someone who is neurodivergent, (and a business owner) the thought of relocating to a new place can be particularly daunting. Yet, as I recently experienced, moving can also be an incredibly positive thing for individuals like myself.
Before I made the decision to move, I was consumed with anxiety about leaving the familiar surroundings of my current home. My mind was filled with thoughts about the unknown, and my routines and comforts being disrupted. However, as I begin to pack up my belongings and prepare for the move, I'm slowly starting to realize that this change was an opportunity for growth and discovery.
For one, the process of sorting through my belongings is a chance to organize and streamline my possessions. As someone with sensory processing issues, I often become overwhelmed by clutter and disorganization. By taking the time to go through everything I owned and decide what to keep, donate, or discard, I was able to create a more calming environment for myself.
Additionally, moving is a chance for me to explore new surroundings and routines. As a neurodivergent person, I often thrive on structure and routine. However, this can also lead to a sense of stagnation and boredom. Moving to a new place will allow me to break out of my comfort zone and discover new activities, routines, and places to explore. It was an opportunity to push myself to try new things and grow as a person.
Perhaps most importantly, moving is allow me to confront and overcome my anxiety. As someone with anxiety, the unknown can be terrifying. However, by facing the challenge of moving head-on, I was able to prove to myself that I am capable of handling the unexpected. I learned that I am more resilient than I give myself credit for and that I can adapt to new situations.
In conclusion, while the prospect of moving as a neurodivergent person may seem overwhelming at first, it can also be a positive and transformative experience. It is a chance to organize, explore, and challenge oneself. It is an opportunity to discover new parts of oneself and to grow in unexpected ways. So, if you are considering a move but are feeling anxious or overwhelmed, take heart. This could be the positive change you need in your life.
You are beautiful person and I appreciate your transparency. I also have to realize that change can be good for us and it gives us the opportunities to grow and learn. I trust that this upcoming move for you will be a liberating adventure and I can't wait to hear about it!
